The duo we DESERVE.

The legend himself Willie Nelson and bluegrass phenom Billy Strings have a new song called “California Sober” dropping this Friday.

They teased the collaboration a couple days ago, and though we didn’t exactly know what it would be at the time, we now know their song will be out everywhere on April 28th, just one day before Willie’s 90th birthday.

Billy shared the teaser below on Instagram, which features a very short clip of the beginning of the song:

“California Sober featuring Willie Nelson.”

In the previous teaser, we also saw a clip of Billy playing Willie’s iconic guitar Trigger, so it seems likely that he might be playing it on their official duet too, which is beyond cool, especially because Billy is an incredibly talented picker and will certainly shred it on country music’s most famous guitar:

Billy will be playing this weekend at the two-day concert dubbed: Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90, A Star-Studded Concert Celebrating Willie’s 90th Birthday at the iconic Hollywood Bowl, so maybe if we’re really, really lucky, they’ll team up for an in-person performance, too.

I mean, Willie and Billy sure has a great ring to it, and I’ve said it before, but they really are the duo we not only need, but deserve, as country music fans.

One of country music’s most legendary artists teaming up with one of the brightest young stars in the genre… you just love to see it.

They previously performed “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” together during last years Outlaw Music Festival:

Billy also previously covered Willie’s signature song “On The Road Again”:
